Sparrows sparrows

The City was full of unfamiliar strangers

its streets a playground for practicing anonymous empathy

no one else on those streets but sparrows

she reaches up her human arm, its skin softens and expands

empathy-filled syringe pierces us

bird blood pumps down the feather-covered skin

This short film and performance is a fantasy of a future where humans are able to extend their skin beyond the limits of the body, thus connecting to other human beings and non-human species. What would happen if empathy towards another creature became a sensation of our flesh? Would it change the way we live in a growing city, where strangers rub shoulders daily, where suffering and difference are often ignored, unacknowledged?

In this fantasy scenario, a girl gets a bird's eye view of herself, after her skin unexpectedly grows out of her arm and connects to the wing of a city bird above her head.
